Who needs a Washington learner's permit or driver's license?
Every citizen who intends to drive a car in the state must have a valid driver's license.
I recently moved to Washington. Do I need a WA driver's license?
Yes. You must apply for a Washington driver's license within 30 days after moving to the state.
What is the age requirement for a Washington driver's license or a learner's permit?
To get a learner's permit, you must have completed a traffic safety course at the age of 15. Without a driver's safety course, you must be at least 15 12 before you may receive a learner's permit. Before you can get a driver's license, you must be at least 16 years old.
How many hours of driver education are required for applicants who are 15 years old?
Classroom education for 30 hours.
5 hours in a vehicle for training (only one spent observing).
Which documents are required to apply for a license in Washington?

A Parental Authorization Statement from your parent or legal guardian is not enough to get a permit.

How can I practice driving with my learner's permit?
You may only drive with a WA permit if you are accompanied by a licensed driver who has had a valid driver's license for a minimum of five years. A minimum of 50 hours of driving practice is required (including 10 hours at night).
How can I pass the knowledge test in Washington?
Forty questions are included in the state's driver's license exam. To get a passing grade, you must properly answer at least 32 of them.
I failed my WA knowledge test. What's next?
Within four hours, you may try again. If you fail the test for the second time, you may retake it in one day.

First time you fail, you get a week to retake it.
You may retake it in 1-3 weeks the second time around.
After three months, you may retake the exam for a third time.
Which restrictions apply to my Washington license after I get it?
There is a six-month ban on travelers under the age of 20 unless they are direct relatives.
For the first year, you cannot have more than three persons under the age of 20 in the automobile with you. Between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., you cannot drive unless you are with a licensed driver over the age of 25.
