At night, drivers should use high-beam headlights

Use high beams when driving in open country without other vehicles nearby. (Under Alaska law, you must dim your headlights to low beam whenever you are within 500 feet of an oncoming vehicle or within 300 feet of a vehicle you are following.) However, even high beams don't let you see as far at night as you can in the daytime. Therefore, you should still drive slower at night.
