If your vehicle is skidding, you should turn the front wheels

Explanation

If your rear wheels start to skid, DON'T PANIC and don't brake yet. Instead, turn the steering wheel in the direction that you want your vehicle to go. If your rear wheels are sliding left, steer left; if they are sliding right, steer right. The rear wheels may overshoot and start to skid in the opposite direction. To prevent this, turn the steering wheel the other way as soon as your vehicle starts to straighten out. This procedure, called "steering into the skid," will get the rear of your vehicle back in line with the front.
