Turn Lanes
If you’re cruising down a two-way street with no median, keep an eye out for a middle lane with a solid yellow line sandwiched between two broken lines. That’s your turn lane!
Feel free to use this lane to turn, cross opposing traffic, or rejoin the flow, but remember these three things:
- Sharing is caring! Vehicles from both sides use this lane, so only hop in if there’s room for your ride.
- Distance matters! Don’t enter unless you’re within 200 feet of your turn.
- Be safe, and maybe you’ll find that pot of gold at the end of the yellow lines!
Reversible lanes
- Listen up, drivers! The reversible lane is like a celebrity who can change their outfit and identity in an instant. In the morning, it’s three lanes of smooth sailing to work, but by the evening it’s back to its two-lane self.
- Just keep your eyes on the illuminated signs and you’ll avoid a traffic jam and any embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions.
HOV Lanes
- The diamond symbol on the HOV lane isn’t just a shiny decoration, it’s a VIP pass for the select few. If you’re not a motorcycle rider, carpooler, or bus rider, stay away from the diamond lane like it’s the plague.
Bicycle Lanes
- Bicycle lanes are usually marked by white lines and are on the very edge of the road, next to a shoulder or the curb of a sidewalk.
- Sometimes the concrete is painted green and can have chevron signs to separate the lane from vehicles.
- Do not enter a bike lane unless you are turning or signs permit you to park. So hug the curb, keep your wheels out of our lane, and let us cyclists have our chevron-studded party zone! 🚲 🎉
Sharrow lanes
Share + Arrow = Sharrow: White painted pals for bikes and cars, saying “road-sharing harmony starts here!” 🚲🚗💨
Bus Only Lanes
Bus lanes are like VIP clubs for buses – no cars allowed! Don’t park, stop, or mingle; it’s an exclusive affair. 🚌✨
