Do I have to pass a vision screening to apply for an Illinois driver’s license?
Yes. A vision screening or a paper signed by an optometrist, ophthalmologist, or physician with a license is required (issued no more than six months prior to your application). With or without corrective glasses, your vision must be 20/40 and your peripheral vision must be at least 140 degrees.
Is a physical test required?
No, however you must declare any physical or mental conditions that might impair your ability to drive safely.
I failed my vision screening/written/driving test. What do I have to do?
Following the payment of the application fee, you will have three opportunities to pass each exam within a year.

What is required in order to obtain an Illinois Instruction Permit?
Obtain a state-approved driver's education certificate; you must be at least 15 years old.
Drive for at least 50 hours of practice (including 10 at night)

In order to participate, you must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 21 years old and has had a valid driver's license for the last year.
How long is my Illinois Instruction Permit valid?
Your permission is good for a period of 24 months. You can receive a driver's license if you are 16 and have had your permit for at least nine months.
I am under age 18 and I have held my Illinois Instruction Permit for at least 9 months. Which documents are required to apply for a Driver’s License?

Do I have any restrictions while driving with my Instruction Permit?

It is illegal to operate a motor vehicle while using a wireless device like a smartphone.
For-hire vehicles with more than 10 passengers are not permitted to be driven by anybody under the age of 18.

This includes traffic signs and signals as well as pavement markings. A thorough knowledge of traffic regulations, safety precautions, collision prevention, and vehicle equipment is also required.

Do I have to provide a car for the driving exam?
Yes indeed, the car must be fully licensed and equipped for your proposed driver's license class.
Can anyone ride in the car with me during the driving exam?
No one else is permitted in the room with you while you take the test except the examiner. There are no children or pets permitted in this area.
What am I expected to do during my driving test?
properly igniting your automobile;
putting the car in reverse;
Turning a corner;
Parking on both sides of the slope;
Ascending and descending;
Taking command of your car.

Within 30 days, you must pay the applicable cost at a Driver Services site. The modification must be documented, so don't forget to do that!
The address on my valid Illinois driver’s license is out of date. What do I have to do?
The Secretary of State's office must be notified within 10 days of any changes.
I have to renew my Illinois driver’s license. Which documents are required?
Only your current, valid driver's license will do when you visit the Driver Services office. Only once every eight years must you attend a Driver Services facility if your driving record is clean enough.
