An interchange is a road junction where two or more roads cross over one another so as not to impede one another's traffic flow. Instead, the roads are connected through a series of connecting ramps. These ramps allow you to leave one road and enter another one safely, without disrupting the flow of traffic. Two common types of interchanges are cloverleaf and diamond. A disadvantage of cloverleaf interchanges is that vehicles entering the cloverleaf may have to merge with vehicles exiting the cloverleaf. The section of roadway where this occurs is known as a weave lane.
