Railroad Crossings

Raidroad Crossings

Railroad crossings are clearly marked, so keep your distance (between 15 to 50 feet) from the tracks.

๐Ÿ›ค๏ธDon’t be a train wreck! ๐Ÿš‚

  • When red lights flash and a train is oncoming, don’t try to cross.
  • Avoid going through or under the barriers.
  • Even if you don’t see a train, cross with care and keep speed to 15 mph.
  • Wait until you have enough space on the other side to fully cross over.

Stop, look and listen! ๐Ÿ›‘

  • If the crossing is marked with stop signs, come to a full stop before proceeding.

Don’t get railroaded by car troubles! If you can’t move your car at a crossing, get out and move away from the tracks. If a train is coming, run in the same direction to avoid train debris! ๐Ÿš‚๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Light-rail vehicles and crossings

It can be common in cities to see light-rail vehicles. ๐Ÿšˆ The same crossing rules apply for these as they do for railroad crossings. If you need to turn across the tracks be sure to look around you so that there is not a light-rail vehicle coming toward you.

โœ‹๐ŸฝOpposite of passing cars, do not pass on the left of a light rail vehicle unless:

  • You are on a one-way street
  • You are being directed by law enforcement
  • There isnโ€™t enough room between the right side of the light-rail vehicle and the edge of the road
