Pay attention to cones, signs, and other barriers when approaching, entering, and driving through a work zone. Illuminated signs may be erected and will display directions for drivers.
Never cross a barrier or go between cones unless directed by a road worker. Directions of road workers in work zones supersede regular road rules.
Be sure to slow down, give extra space between your vehicle and others, and be watchful of last-minute lane changes or directions of road crew.
Violations in a work zone can lead to fines of $1000 and are doubled in specially marked areas that are considered especially dangerous to road workers, or in areas of road construction and road maintenance.
Disrespecting, assaulting, or putting in danger any worker present can lead to fines up to $2000.
