Who is required to have a Michigan driver's license?
Everyone in Michigan has a license to drive.
Who is considered a resident in Michigan?
Anyone who has a fixed address in Michigan and has been able to prove their legal right to be there.
I have just moved to Michigan. What do I have to do?
Title and registration of your car must be done as soon as possible at a Secretary of State office. In order to drive in the state of your new home, you may utilize your out-of-state driver's license. You must apply for a Michigan driver's license once this occurs.
How long is a Michigan driver's license valid for?
On your birthday in the year that appears on the license, it expires. On your 21st birthday, if you are under the age of 21, your driver's license expires.

I am 18 years old or older. How can I obtain a Michigan driver's license?
Please provide your Social Security Number;
a copy of your U.S. passport or other official evidence of your legal right to be in the country;
Provide a form of identification;
Two pieces of evidence of Michigan residence must be provided.

I am younger than 18 years of age, can I apply for a Michigan driver's license?
To be able to drive legally in Michigan, you'll need to complete the state's Graduated Driver Licensing program.
How is the GDL in Michigan structured?
To earn a complete driver's license, you must satisfy the criteria of three licensing levels. As you improve your driving abilities and confidence, you get more driving privileges.

Pass the knowledge exam and get your instruction permit after completing the first phase of your driver's education.
Do I have any restriction when practicing driving with my instruction permit?
You can only drive if a licensed driver over the age of 21 is in the passenger seat with you, yes.
How long do I have to hold my instruction permit?
For the next six months at least. Driver's education classes must be completed and at least 50 hours of supervised driving must be completed before you may get your license.

Yes, you will be granted a driver's license and placed on a three-year probationary term before you may drive legally.

Where can I take my Michigan knowledge test?
In the first phase of your driver's education, you will take a written exam if you are younger than 18. SOS offices in Michigan must only accept those who are at least 18 years old.
I failed my knowledge or driving test, when can I retake it?
At the very least, give it a day or two. Before retaking the exam, read the instructions thoroughly and take practice tests.
How is the driving skills test in Michigan structured?
There are two components to the driving exam. Off-street, closed-course movements are required in the first section. The second section of the exam is a road-based driving test.
